Marta Olivetti Belardinelli’s research lies at the intersection of cognitive science, psychophysiology, and human-robot interaction (HRI), with a focus on how humans perceive, collaborate with, and emotionally respond to robotic systems. Her most influential work, a 2013 review and feasibility study on psychophysiological methods in HRI (47 citations), established a foundational framework for using biometric measures—such as heart rate and skin conductance—to objectively assess users’ emotional states during robot encounters.
