Lihong V. Wang is a pioneering researcher in biomedical optics and imaging, best known for inventing photoacoustic tomography (PAT) and revolutionizing the field of deep-tissue imaging. His major contributions include the development of functional photoacoustic microscopy and the first in vivo photoacoustic imaging systems, which enable high-resolution visualization of biological structures at depths far beyond conventional optical methods. With over 100,000 citations across his published works, Wang’s research has had a transformative impact on cancer detection, brain imaging, and vascular biology. He is also the author of the landmark textbook *Biomedical Optics: Principles and Imaging*, widely used by students and researchers worldwide.
