About
Gilles Rabatel is a pioneering researcher in agricultural robotics and precision farming, whose work has fundamentally shaped how technology addresses the challenge of sustainable food production. His primary research areas include robotic harvesting, autonomous pest and weed control, and advanced sensor systems for plant monitoring. Rabatel’s most impactful contribution is his 2016 paper on fleets of robots for environmentally-safe pest control, which has garnered 222 citations and proposes a scalable solution to reduce pesticide use while maintaining crop yields. He was a key figure in the landmark RHEA project (Robot Fleets for Highly Effective Agriculture and Forestry Management), funded by the EC’s 7th Framework Programme, which developed integrated aerial and ground robotic systems for site-specific herbicide application.
