Chongyang Wang is advancing the frontier of surgical robotics with a focus on soft endoscope intervention, tendon-sheath actuation, and force-sensing technologies for minimally invasive procedures. His most cited work, a 2019 study on navigation strategies for robotic soft endoscopes (22 citations), addresses a critical bottleneck in current surgery—reducing reliance on endoscopist skill by introducing human-robot cooperation for autonomous orientation within tortuous lumens.
