About
Alberto Ragusa is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher at the forefront of next-generation robotic surgery. His work centers on the clinical adoption and technical optimization of novel robotic platforms, particularly the Hugo™ RAS system, for complex urologic oncology procedures. Ragusa has made landmark contributions by establishing the feasibility, safety, and standardized surgical set-ups for robot-assisted partial nephrectomy and radical prostatectomy using this modular system, with his 2023 review on robotic surgery history in urology accumulating over 114 citations. He has developed innovative three-arm, off-clamp techniques for nephron-sparing surgery and created the first dedicated simulation training platform for the Hugo™ system, addressing a critical gap in surgical education. His comparative studies demonstrating equivalent or superior trifecta outcomes against traditional laparoscopic approaches have been highly influential, with his work collectively cited over 300 times. Ragusa’s research also explores how robotic technology impacts patient decision-making in prostate cancer treatment, bridging technical innovation with patient-centered care. His proficiency scoring system for skill transfer from laparoscopy to robotics represents a novel contribution to surgical quality assessment.
