About
Dr. Nicola Di Santo is a leading gynecologic oncologist whose research focuses on refining surgical staging and perioperative outcomes for women with endometrial cancer. A central contribution is her work on sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in high-risk endometrial cancers, including grade 3 endometrioid, serous, and carcinosarcoma histologies. Her landmark 2016 study, cited 54 times, demonstrated that SLN mapping is both feasible and accurate in this challenging population, helping to reduce the morbidity of complete lymphadenectomy while maintaining oncologic safety. Dr. Di Santo has also advanced our understanding of postoperative recovery, notably through a 2015 study (22 citations) comparing pain scores and narcotic use between robotic-assisted and laparoscopic hysterectomy for endometrial cancer staging. This work provides valuable data to guide surgical decision-making and improve patient quality of life. Her research is instrumental in shifting practice toward less invasive, more precise surgical approaches. By combining rigorous methodology with a focus on patient-centered outcomes, Dr. Di Santo continues to shape evidence-based standards in gynecologic oncology.
