About
Dr. Katelijne de Bie is a leading researcher in the field of urologic oncology, with a primary focus on improving the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic assessment of prostate cancer through advanced molecular imaging. Her major contributions center on the clinical validation of PSMA-PET imaging, particularly the radiotracer [18F]DCFPyL, combined with multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). In her landmark ProStaPET study, she prospectively demonstrated the superior detection of clinically significant prostate cancer using PSMA-PET/MRI compared to mpMRI alone, a finding directly verified against whole-mount radical prostatectomy histopathology. This work has been cited 27 times for its rigorous methodology and potential to refine biopsy guidance and treatment planning. Dr. de Bie has also established a critical link between quantitative imaging biomarkers and patient outcomes, showing that intraprostatic maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) on PSMA-PET/CT are significantly associated with oncological results following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. By bridging the gap between advanced imaging metrics and tangible prognostic indicators, her research is helping to pave the way for more personalized, image-guided management of prostate cancer.
