Prostatectomy is the surgical removal of the prostate gland, most commonly performed to treat localized prostate cancer. Traditionally conducted as open retropubic surgery, the procedure has evolved significantly through laparoscopic and, most prominently, robot-assisted laparoscopic approaches. Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), typically performed using the da Vinci surgical system, allows surgeons to operate through small incisions using highly articulated robotic instruments controlled from a console, providing enhanced visualization, precision, and dexterity compared to conventional techniques.
