Abstract

This paper presents a novel algorithm for a new upper-lower limb physiotherapy robot, which is characterized by simplicity of manufacture and ease of use. The main contribution of this research is the design of a robot that can perform a physiotherapy exercise for a very low cost of the used equipment, as well as the ability for patients to use this robot at home and immediately after suffering a disability or undergoing physiotherapy-related surgeries. The pulse width (PW) transmitted to the servo motor, which controls the robot's movement angle, is controlled by the Arduino microcontroller. Using LabVIEW software, the Arduino was programmed, and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) was built to allow the user to establish the setpoints and monitor the exercise session. The experimental findings, which evaluated the requisite movement angles with the required speed and repetitions, were good, showing that the robot could be utilized in practice and that it may be a marketable product.
