Abstract

This paper describes experiments with small drones, (UAVs), a real-time big-data platform (Kafka), the Robot Operating System communicating using cellular 4G mobile services. The objective of the experiment is to collect data for testing of obstacle avoidance algorithms and to evaluate the communications performance end-to-end. The results suggest that there is much more study needed before UAV swarms can be flown.
