Abstract
This paper presents a home security surveillance system that increases home safety through continuous scanning and monitoring of home environment. The system comprises FireBird–IV robots (FB–IV), Lego–Mindstorms–NXT robots (NXT), a computer and wireless–G cameras. It captures audio–visual information and sends it to the owner's mobile phone. A computer system acts as an interface between the robots to exchange data. Java compatible mobile phones control the movement of NXT via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth protocol facilitates communication between NXT and a computer, and the ZigBee facilitates communication between the computer and FB–IV. A mobile phone controls the NXT within the house. Detecting an obstacle, NXT sends the sensor's value to FB–IV via computer that initiates FB–IV to act intelligently. The wireless–G camera installed on FB–IV sends live video over the internet to a web browser. This system can be used by a house owner to monitor the whole house using his mobile.
