BS>From 21st conference on remote systems technology; San Francisco, California, USA (11 Nov 1973). See CONF-731111-. It has become apparent that manipulators are a viable means of working scales. Detailed studies of the requirements and design principles for a 40-ft-long, bilateral force-reflecting (BFR) manipulator were contrasted to those for an 8-in.-long, force- sensing, mini-robot arm. In both cases, extensions and scaling of the technology of BFR manipulators were applied. (auth)
