摘要

The LEGO Mindstorms RCX is a widely deployed robotics platform used for teaching and research. This report contains additional information not detailed in the attached paper submitted to the Communicating Process Architectures 2007 conference, regarding a concurrent operating and programming environment for the Mindstorms RCX implemented using the Transterpreter virtual machine. The development of such an environment has been driven by a desire to provide a first-class environment for occam-π robotics work, and facilitate the use of a robotics platform available to students, for teaching concurrency. Preface This report contains additional details about a concurrent operating and programming environment for the Mindstorms RCX described in “A Native Transterpreter for the LEGO Mindstorms RCX”. These details were omitted from the paper, which follows this report for clarity and brevity reasons. The paper has been submitted to the Communicating Process Architectures 2007 conference. The conference paper was written in advance of this report, and as such it represents a discussion of the main focus of the work, with some technical detail omitted. The paper also quotes three authors, however the text of the paper and the work described therein is claimed to be my own. Matthew C. Jadud and Christian L. Jacobsen have provided important support and a context for the author of this report to work within, and appear as contributory researchers on the conference paper as a result.
