About

A servo system is a closed-loop control mechanism that continuously measures the output of a device — such as a motor, joint, or actuator — and adjusts its input to minimize the error between the desired and actual state. In robotics and AI, servos are fundamental building blocks found in robotic arms, legged robots, UAVs, and mobile platforms, where they regulate position, velocity, or torque with high precision. Visual servoing extends this concept by incorporating camera feedback directly into the control loop, allowing robots to guide motion based on real-time image data rather than relying solely on pre-programmed positions. This enables capabilities such as object tracking, harvesting, medical imaging guidance, and aerial manipulation. Servo control matters because it provides the responsiveness and accuracy needed for robots to operate reliably in dynamic, unpredictable environments. Whether implemented through hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric actuators, and whether regulated by classical controllers or neural-network-based adaptive schemes, servo systems underpin virtually every precise, reactive motion a robot performs.
