About

Tipu Sultan is a pharmaceutical engineer whose research sits at the intersection of materials science, manufacturing, and artificial intelligence. His work focuses on understanding how the physical properties of pharmaceutical tablets—particularly their shape—affect performance, and on developing real-time quality control methods for continuous manufacturing. In his highly cited 2022 study, Sultan demonstrated that tablet geometry significantly influences critical physical attributes such as tensile strength and disintegration time, providing a foundational framework for rational tablet design. Building on this, his 2024 paper pioneered the use of machine learning models to predict tablet quality from ultrasonic sensor data, enabling non-destructive, real-time release testing in continuous manufacturing lines. This work directly addresses the pharmaceutical industry’s push toward Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and Industry 4.0, offering a path to reduce waste and improve product consistency. With his papers already garnering attention from both academic and industrial researchers, Sultan is emerging as a key voice in the digital transformation of solid dosage form manufacturing.
