Tae Gyun Kwon is a prominent urological surgeon and researcher whose work has significantly shaped the adoption and refinement of robotic surgical techniques in urology, particularly in South Korea. His research centers on robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) for bladder cancer, robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) for prostate cancer, and the optimization of perioperative and oncological outcomes in minimally invasive urological surgery. Kwon played a foundational role in establishing RARC practice across Korean institutions, contributing to one of the earliest multicenter Korean series of 104 patients, a landmark study that has garnered 32 citations. His subsequent investigations have systematically evaluated the real-world advantages of robotic over open surgery, assessed intracorporeal versus extracorporeal urinary diversion techniques, and examined the clinical significance of surgical quality benchmarks such as the pentafecta.
