About

Subing Qu is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of bioelectronics and energy materials, whose work spans from neural interfaces to colloidal energy systems. Qu is best known for developing large-area, MRI-compatible epidermal electronic interfaces that enable simultaneous prosthetic control and cognitive monitoring—a breakthrough that has garnered 393 citations and opened new frontiers in non-invasive neural engineering. This work demonstrates how soft, stretchable electronics can seamlessly integrate with the human body while remaining compatible with clinical imaging. More recently, Qu has ventured into the emerging field of redox-active colloids (RACs), introducing a novel class of energy carriers that exchange electrical energy upon physical contact. In a 2025 study, Qu visualized contact-mediated electron transfer dynamics in colloidal suspensions, providing the first quantitative framework for understanding energy transfer in these systems. This foundational work offers new insights into physical contact events in soft matter and could revolutionize how we design distributed energy storage and transfer systems. Qu’s ability to bridge bioelectronics and energy science, combined with a track record of high-impact publications, marks them as a versatile and forward-thinking contributor to modern materials research.
