About

Qiannan Hou is a pioneering gynecologic surgeon whose research centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques, particularly transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (V-NOTES) for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and hysterectomy. Her major contributions include developing and refining V-NOTES for sacrocolpopexy, a procedure that offers a scarless, less invasive alternative to traditional laparoscopic or robotic approaches for POP repair. In a 2023 case series (11 citations), she demonstrated the feasibility and operative outcomes of V-NOTES sacrocolpopexy, with or without robotic assistance, highlighting its potential to reduce recovery time and improve patient comfort. More recently, in 2024, she pioneered a gasless V-NOTES technique for hysterectomy and salpingectomy using a robotic platform with flexible devices in a porcine model (2 citations), achieving a total operative time of 110 minutes and a docking time of just 1 minute. This work showcases her innovative approach to overcoming technical challenges in minimally invasive gynecology. With a focus on translating these techniques to clinical practice, Hou’s research is shaping the future of scarless surgery, offering patients safer, more effective options for gynecologic conditions.
