About

Okan Falay is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work sits at the intersection of advanced imaging, nuclear medicine, and robotic surgery. His primary research focuses on leveraging three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions from multiparametric prostate MRI and Ga⁶⁸-PSMA PET/CT to enhance the precision of robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). In his most-cited work (12 citations), Falay demonstrated how virtual reality tumor navigation can guide surgeons in real-time, offering a powerful tool to improve oncologic outcomes while preserving healthy tissue. This integration of molecular imaging with surgical robotics represents a significant leap toward personalized, image-guided cancer care. More recently, Falay has investigated the predictive value of PSMA PET/CT in identifying patients with Gleason score 8 (4+4) prostate cancer who may experience pathological downgrading after surgery—a finding that could spare some men from overtreatment. By bridging radiology and operative technique, Falay’s work not only refines surgical decision-making but also sets the stage for more targeted, less invasive prostate cancer management.
