About
Nobuhiro Okada is a pioneering marine biologist whose research sits at the innovative crossroads of environmental DNA (eDNA) technology and coral reef ecology. His most notable work explores the application of cutting-edge non-invasive sampling methodologies to study some of the ocean's most challenging and understudied habitats — mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs), which exist at depths of 30 to 150 meters where traditional survey methods struggle to reach. Okada's landmark 2024 study, which has already garnered 12 citations, demonstrated the compelling possibility of deploying underwater mini-ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) to collect eDNA samples from scleractinian corals in these difficult-to-access zones, offering a transformative alternative to professional SCUBA diving surveys.
