Dr. Meijin Nakayama is a pioneering surgeon and researcher at the forefront of robotic surgery in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. His work centers on advancing minimally-invasive techniques for laryngeal and pharyngeal cancers, with a particular focus on transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Dr. Nakayama’s major contributions include demonstrating the feasibility of TORS supraglottic laryngectomy using next-generation single-port robotic systems, as well as developing hybrid supracricoid partial laryngectomy procedures that combine limited transcervical and transoral robotic approaches. His landmark paper, “The dawn of robotic surgery in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery” (36 citations), provides a comprehensive historical and technical overview of the field.
