About
Armando De Virgilio is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose career has been defined by advancing minimally invasive robotic techniques for the treatment of complex cancers of the throat, pharynx, and larynx. His landmark 2010 study demonstrating the feasibility of transoral robotic hypopharyngectomy — now cited over 125 times — helped establish transoral robotic surgery (TORS) as a viable alternative to open surgical approaches, fundamentally reshaping how early-stage hypopharyngeal carcinoma is managed. His subsequent three-year oncologic and functional analysis further validated TORS outcomes, accumulating 94 citations and cementing his role as a leading voice in the field.
