About

Kazuhiro Kudo is a pioneering researcher in the field of flexible and organic electronics, with a particular focus on fabricating functional devices on non-planar, curved surfaces. His major contributions lie in developing innovative manufacturing techniques that allow organic thin-film transistors and sensor arrays to be seamlessly integrated onto pliable substrates. In his highly cited 2017 work, Kudo introduced a thermal molding method that enables the deformation of plastic films—such as poly(ethylene naphthalate)—into freely designed shapes without compromising device performance, a critical step toward truly conformable electronics. Building on this, his 2019 research demonstrated an organic sensor array distributed across a curved surface with finite Gauss curvature, using a soft robot finger as a test case to achieve artificial tactile sensing. While his citation counts (10 and 3, respectively) reflect a focused, emerging body of work, Kudo’s research is notable for addressing the fundamental challenge of strain distribution in deformed substrates, paving the way for next-generation wearable sensors, smart skins, and soft robotics. His achievements represent a significant advance in merging organic electronics with complex, real-world geometries.
