Jiahang Wang is at the forefront of advancing minimally invasive vascular intervention through the design and optimization of magnetic soft continuum robots (MSCRs). His research focuses on overcoming critical challenges in navigating the complex, tortuous, and narrow structures of the human vasculature, particularly within the brain. Wang’s major contributions include pioneering a unified optimization strategy that simultaneously tunes both the geometry and magnetization profile of MSCRs to maximize their bending angle and steerability. Building on this, he introduced the tapered MSCR (T-MSCR), a novel design specifically engineered to enhance navigation in the demanding cerebral vasculature. By addressing the limitations of conventional, uniform-diameter robots, his work directly improves the ability to guide surgical instruments to previously inaccessible pathological areas.
