Gunnar Steineck is a prominent clinical researcher whose work has fundamentally shaped our understanding of surgical outcomes in urological oncology, particularly in the treatment of prostate and bladder cancer. Based primarily at Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, Steineck has devoted much of his career to rigorously comparing robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) with traditional open surgical approaches, generating high-quality evidence at a time when robotic surgery was rapidly proliferating without robust long-term data to support its adoption. His most influential contribution, a 2015 prospective controlled trial comparing urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction across surgical approaches, has accumulated nearly 500 citations and remains a landmark reference in the field.
