About
Francesco Alessandro Mistretta is a leading urologic oncologist whose research focuses on advancing robot-assisted surgery for major urological cancers, including prostate, kidney, and bladder malignancies. His work has fundamentally shaped our understanding of the perioperative and oncologic outcomes of robotic procedures. Mistretta’s landmark 2019 study, with 63 citations, provided a contemporary national assessment of robot-assisted surgery rates and total hospital charges for major surgical uro-oncological procedures in the United States, revealing that while robotic approaches are increasingly adopted, they are associated with significantly higher hospital costs compared to open surgery.
