David Jayne is a leading surgical researcher whose work has fundamentally shaped our understanding of robotic-assisted surgery, particularly in the treatment of rectal cancer. Based at the forefront of minimally invasive colorectal surgery, Jayne has dedicated his career to rigorously evaluating whether emerging robotic technologies offer genuine advantages over established laparoscopic techniques. His most celebrated contribution is the ROLARR trial — a landmark international, multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing robotic-assisted and conventional laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer resection.
