About
Christian Simon is a leading head and neck surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the field of transoral surgery for oropharyngeal and laryngeal cancers. His work centers on refining minimally invasive techniques—particularly transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and transoral laser microsurgery (TLM)—to improve oncologic outcomes while reducing treatment-related morbidity. Simon’s landmark systematic reviews and meta-analyses on TORS/TLM for cancers of unknown primary and on surgical margins in oropharyngeal carcinoma (each with 81 citations) have provided critical evidence guiding clinical practice. He has pioneered strategies to minimize adjuvant therapy, demonstrating through prospective studies that surgical margin revision and exclusion of radiographic extracapsular extension can safely reduce the need for additional treatment.
