Anantha P. Chandrakasan is a pioneering figure in low-power digital integrated circuit design and energy-efficient computing. His research spans ultra-low-power VLSI systems, wireless sensor networks, and hardware accelerators for machine learning and speech recognition. He is widely recognized for foundational contributions to subthreshold circuit design and dynamic voltage scaling, which have enabled energy-constrained devices from wearables to IoT nodes. Among his most cited works is a 2017 paper on a scalable speech recognizer integrating deep-neural-network acoustic models with voice-activated power gating, demonstrating how hardware-software co-design can achieve high-accuracy ASR under strict power and latency constraints.
