About

Transmission in telecommunications refers to the sending and receiving of signals, data, or power across a communication channel — whether wired, wireless, acoustic, or optical. In robotics and AI, transmission encompasses a broad set of challenges: managing time delays in teleoperation systems, enabling wireless control of remote or underwater robots, supporting telesurgery across long distances, and transferring power wirelessly to implanted or field-deployed devices. It also extends to mechanical transmission — how forces and motions propagate through tendons, cables, gears, and drive systems within robot bodies. Reliable telecommunication transmission is critical for real-time command and feedback loops, while mechanical transmission efficiency directly impacts robot speed, accuracy, and energy consumption. As robots are deployed in increasingly challenging and distant environments — deep oceans, power line infrastructure, surgical suites, or disaster zones — the quality, latency, and robustness of transmission become fundamental design constraints. Advances in transmission technology therefore directly enable safer, more capable, and more autonomous robotic systems across virtually every application domain.
