About
Yujia Zhong’s research lies at the dynamic intersection of flexible electronics, bioinspired materials, and smart sensory systems. Her work is distinguished by pioneering efforts to create highly stretchable, durable strain sensors that mimic natural biological functions. In her most-cited paper (2019, 66 citations), Zhong developed a bioinspired, dynamically cross-linked graphene/polymer composite, achieving remarkable adaptability and durability for strain sensing—a critical advance for wearable technology and human motion detection. She further pushed boundaries by integrating a graphene sensor with an electrochromic device on a modulus-gradient polymer, enabling instantaneous, real-time strain visualization (2017, 28 citations). This work, inspired by animals’ color-changing abilities for camouflage and communication, represents a significant step toward artificial skin with both sensing and display functions. Through these contributions, Zhong has demonstrated how nature-inspired design can solve fundamental challenges in flexibility and multifunctionality, establishing her as a rising leader in the development of next-generation smart materials for healthcare, robotics, and human-machine interfaces.
