About
Dr. Xiaoyan Wu is a leading researcher in advanced manufacturing, specializing in the friction stir welding (FSW) of lightweight alloys, particularly aluminum–lithium (Al–Li) systems used in aerospace. Her work focuses on the critical intersection of robotic automation and material science, addressing the challenges of welding high-performance alloys to achieve superior mechanical properties. In her highly cited 2023 study, Dr. Wu pioneered the use of a KUKA robot integrated with a compact FSW head to weld 2198 Al–Li alloy, systematically analyzing the relationship between welding speed, real-time tool forces (Fx, Fy, Fz), and the resulting microstructure and mechanical property evolution.
