About

Tiansheng Gan is a pioneering researcher at the forefront of liquid metal nanotechnology and soft materials engineering. His work centers on harnessing the unique properties of gallium-based liquid metals—conductive materials that remain liquid at room temperature—for transformative applications in soft robotics, reconfigurable electronics, and biomedical devices. Gan’s major contributions include developing innovative strategies to overcome the inherent stickiness and corrosiveness of liquid metals, as demonstrated in his highly cited 2018 work on robust, nonstick graphene-coated droplets (135 citations). He also pioneered light-induced shape morphing of liquid metal nanodroplets using polydopamine coatings (146 citations), enabling new possibilities for autonomous microsystems. His research extends to creating self-healable, recyclable liquid metal–elastomer composites with dual-shape memory (25 citations) and vibration-driven mobility of liquid metals (13 citations), pushing the boundaries of directed actuation. Gan’s notable achievements include developing a rapid self-assembly method for transferable liquid metal “epidermis” (7 citations) and unlocking trivalent ion cross-linked hydrogels for ultrasoft, stretchable structures (43 citations). With over 350 total citations, his work is shaping the future of adaptive, multifunctional materials.
