About
Shirin Razdan is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancers. Her most impactful work centers on optimizing functional outcomes after prostatectomy, particularly through her 2014 study on maximal urethral length preservation (MULP) technique, which demonstrated significantly earlier return of continence—a finding cited 62 times and now widely adopted. Razdan has also been at the forefront of same-day discharge protocols for robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy, showing through quality-of-life analysis that ambulatory surgery is safe and effective. As a key member of the Single Port Advanced Research Consortium (SPARC), she has contributed landmark comparisons of transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal single-port robotic partial nephrectomy, and performed the first single-port donor nephrectomy using the da Vinci SP system. Her innovative work extends to using dehydrated human amniotic membrane allografts to enhance nerve-sparing outcomes, and exploring how anesthetic choice may affect bladder cancer recurrence. With over 240 total citations across her portfolio, Razdan is recognized as a leader in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in robotic urologic surgery—from cost-effectiveness analyses to novel nerve-sparing techniques—making her a vital voice in the field's evolution toward less invasive, more patient-centered care.
