About
Edward Rowe is a prominent urological surgeon and researcher whose work has fundamentally shaped the evidence base for robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) in the treatment of bladder cancer. His research sits at the intersection of surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and perioperative care, with a particular focus on comparing robotic and open surgical approaches to improve patient outcomes. Rowe's most influential contribution is his landmark 2022 randomised controlled trial comparing robot-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion against open radical cystectomy, which has amassed over 320 citations and provided critical evidence on 90-day morbidity and mortality. This work was preceded by the iROC trial protocol (2018, 88 citations) and early feasibility studies that established the infrastructure for this definitive research. His contributions extend to enhanced recovery protocols, co-authoring the widely adopted EAU Robotic Urology Section consensus guidelines (141 citations), and rigorous cost-effectiveness analyses that have informed healthcare policy. Rowe has also advanced understanding of oncological outcomes, recurrence patterns, and end-user requirements for next-generation robotic systems. His cumulative body of work, totalling hundreds of citations across major journals, has helped establish intracorporeal robotic cystectomy as a credible standard of care globally.
