About

The urinary system encompasses the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, collectively responsible for filtering blood, producing urine, and maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance. In robotics and AI, this organ system has become a primary focus for minimally invasive surgical innovation. Robotic platforms such as the da Vinci system are extensively applied to urological procedures including radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction, ureteral reimplantation, and sacrocolpopexy. These robot-assisted approaches offer surgeons enhanced dexterity, three-dimensional visualization, and tremor filtration within anatomically complex pelvic and retroperitoneal spaces. Compared to open or conventional laparoscopic surgery, robotic urological procedures generally demonstrate reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and improved preservation of continence and sexual function. Advanced techniques such as intracorporeal urinary diversion and indocyanine green-guided reconstruction further illustrate the growing sophistication of robotic urological care. Understanding urinary system anatomy and pathology is therefore essential for engineers and researchers developing surgical robots, autonomous imaging systems, and AI-driven diagnostic tools targeting one of medicine's most robotically advanced specialties.
