Antonios Porichis is a roboticist focused on advancing legged locomotion and agricultural automation. His research addresses two fundamental challenges: enabling hexapod robots to navigate rough, unknown terrain without prior mapping, and teaching robots complex manipulation tasks through imitation learning. In his 2016 work on hexapod locomotion, Porichis demonstrated how static stability can be maintained during continuous motion over uneven ground—a critical step toward practical field deployment of legged robots. More recently, he has pioneered visual imitation learning for robotic mushroom harvesting, a task so cognitively demanding that it requires weeks of human training.
