Abstract
Addresses how a fuzzy expert system is employed in a robotic assembly workcell for the purpose of intelligent monitoring. A formal framework based on fuzzy set theory for the representation of workcell knowledge has been developed. The approximate reasoning technique using fuzzy logic theory is described, and its applications in robotic error diagnosis and error recovery is illustrated. Workcell error knowledge is represented in the form of relationships between combinations of errors and diagnostic causes. It has been demonstrated that the introduction of fuzzy concepts into expert systems is highly desirable, and the result is more powerful than traditional systems.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
