Abstract

Organizations across our society are increasingly relying on robots to engage in interactions with humans. Human–robot interaction (HRI) is an area of research that focuses on identifying and understanding the factors that promote or hinder human interaction with robots. In this chapter, we reflect on the various aspects of HRI, which include trust, personality, explanation, and evaluation metrics. Each of these areas is among the most influential areas of study in identifying ways to build robots that are capable of interacting with humans in an intuitive, comfortable, and natural way to help promote collaborations between humans and robots. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the most vital areas shaping the future of HCI. At the same time, we hope this chapter helps to advance our understanding of this emerging area.
