Abstract
Robotics, bioengineering innovations and bionic technologies have been converging in the last years towards the common framework of finding smart and effective solutions to medical problems. This is the result of an articulated process in which robotics, representing the main backbone, was progressively contaminated and enriched by different disciplines, through several important milestones [item 1)–12) in the Appendix] ( <xref ref-type="fig" rid="fig1" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Fig. 1</xref> ).
