Remote Reference-Desk Service System using Android Robot for University Librarian

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a remote reference-desk service using an android robot that supports university librarians. For the convenience of the visitors and the efficiency of the librarians, it is important issues that the remote operation of the reference desk in the library works well. The remote system is implemented as the web applications executed on the server, and the librarians communicate with the visitors using the tablet via the remote view and voice recorded by the android robot. In addition, the system records the results of the dictation from the visitors talks. The implementation results and the long-term experiments at the reference desk of the university library show the feasibility of the robot services.
