Abstract

This is the second article in a two-part series about the PrevBOT concept, which is an automated tool supporting the police in preventing CSEA in online chat rooms. The first article described the PrevBOT concept, its theoretical framework, and the technology. This Part II analyses legal issues central to the implementation of PrevBOT. In particular, issues of privacy, police provocation, self-incrimination and data protection are addressed. In addition, PrevBOTʼs identification and categorization functions are analyzed against the proposed European Artificial Intelligence Act. The conclusion is that the PrevBOT concept may be lawfully implemented, thus providing the police with a new tool to prevent online CSEA.
