Abstract
The state of the art of underwater sensors and the near-term prospects for improved imaging systems are addressed. Both optical and sonar sensor technology are surveyed and the performances of the imaging systems are examined within the context of the requirements for underwater robotic vision sensors. An assortment of currently available commercial technology is surveyed as well as a number of systems that are currently under development.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
