摘要
The federated learning (FL) strategy introduces a paradigm shift in the way language teaching is tailored to the individual learner. In traditional language classrooms, all data and learning insights usually reside on a central server, and using federated learning, this paradigm changes. Each student device becomes a decentralized node and can store its data locally. In our English as a Foreign Language (EFL) class example, students use an artificial intelligence (AI) language learning application or platform on their respective smartphone devices with this FL system. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of academic investigations exploring artificial intelligence practices in the context of robotic tutoring and offers a comparative analysis. Additionally, this research explores the innovative application of blended learning to investigate the impact on robot tutors Lily and Elsa-AI in English as a Foreign Language classrooms. This research aims to dissect and critically assess the efficacy, adaptability, and implications of AI-robot tutor technology. The research method used was an experimental method with a population of 74 students from the 2023 academic year. The research instruments used were tests, observations, and questionnaires regarding the FL teaching model, and the data was analyzed using SPSS IBM version 26. This research aims to contribute valuable insights to the discourse of the AI-FL robotic system in language education. With a statistically significant sample size of 74, the results provide a picture of how participants feel about using blended learning approaches and artificial intelligence in an English as a Foreign Language class. These findings provide information to educators, policymakers, and researchers about the advantages of implementing robot tutors with FL learning systems and the innovative potential of hybrid learning in shaping the language education landscape in the future. Incorporating FL provides a meaningful learning impact, improves learning outcomes, fosters deep learning in English, and motivates students to learn better. The results of this study provide a holistic understanding of the impact of FL strategies on EFL classrooms.
