Cultural Differences in Attitudes towards Robots - Based on Negative Attitude towards Robots (NARS) Scale: Protocol for a Systematic Literature Review

The attitude and social acceptance towards robots are differ among nations. Over time robots’ acceptance became interesting for researchers from inter- and cross-cultural point of view. According to available papers there are significant differences between the Asian and the Western nations’ attitudes and between the Eastern and Western countries. Therefore, it can be assumed that to examine robot and human interactions it is important to have an understanding on the cultural context of the examined population. The international literature on cross-cultural differences is broad, there is significant fragmentation of the literature. One thing is common in most of the papers namely the methodology: data collection and the questionnaire they use. Most of the published papers used the NARS scale (Negative Attitude Towards Robots) to collect information from the public. In the final systematic literature review we will include papers only if NARS scale is used and if the exact NARS score also available for objective comparison. According to Prospero international prospective register no such systematic literature review has been done before, therefore it offers an innovative prospective by filling the existing research gap. We expect that this systematic literature review will not only summarize existing literature but also help us to understand cultural differences in humans’ attitudes towards artificial agents or robots.
