摘要

In the previous chapter, security in relation to Internet of Things was discussed along with different application areas. This chapter looks specifically into industrial applications of Internet of Things (also known as the Industrial Internet of Things) through a case study of a Smart Production platform. The Industrial Internet of Things is part of a current trend with more and more industrial devices and systems becoming connected to the Internet, including robots and “smart production” systems. An example of this is the German initiative called Industrie 4.0 [1] backed by the German government, followed by other especially European countries with similar initiatives such as the Danish MADE [2] and the French Industry of the Future [3]. However, too often the security of these devices and systems is either completely ignored or not taken sufficiently serious. This assumption is supported by reports from both government offices and security companies, but as attacks and events where companies are compromised are considered confidential and sensitive there are probably large shadow numbers.
