About
Zhi Qu is a rising innovator at the frontier of soft robotics and micro-nano engineering, whose work is redefining how miniature machines are designed, fabricated, and deployed. His primary research areas span programmable magnetic soft robotics, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), and real-time imaging for micro-manipulation. Qu’s most notable contribution is a groundbreaking, template-free method for 3D programmable magnetization of soft millirobots, leveraging interlayer stress to achieve complex, untethered actuation without sequential fabrication—a major leap for minimally invasive medicine and soft electronics. This work has already garnered 5 citations since its 2025 publication, signaling strong early impact. He has also developed MEMS-integrated microrobots capable of passive H₂O₂ detection, enabling autonomous environmental sensing in power-constrained settings, and advanced real-time target tracking in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for precise assembly of carbon-nanotube-based 3D micro-devices. By merging sensor intelligence with robotic mobility, Qu is paving the way for next-generation microrobots that can navigate, sense, and respond in complex biological and industrial environments—a compelling vision for the future of micro-robotic systems.
