About
Dr. Yu Guang Tan is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for urologic cancers, particularly bladder, prostate, and penile cancers. His major contributions include demonstrating the benefits of robot-assisted radical cystectomy over open surgery within Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs, showing improved perioperative outcomes in a propensity-matched analysis (16 citations). He also pioneered ambulatory robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy using a total extraperitoneal approach, proving the feasibility of same-day discharge for select prostate cancer patients (8 citations). More recently, Dr. Tan has explored focal cryotherapy for posterior prostate lesions using a hydrogel technique, and reported early clinical outcomes from transitioning to the hinotori™ robotic surgical system. His systematic review and meta-analysis comparing open versus minimally invasive inguinal lymphadenectomy in penile cancer provides critical evidence for adopting less invasive approaches. With over 30 citations across his most-cited works, Dr. Tan is recognized for driving innovation in robotic urologic surgery, enhancing recovery, and expanding the boundaries of what is possible in outpatient and focal cancer treatment.
