About
Walter Sermeus is a pioneering figure in nursing informatics and healthcare quality improvement, best known for shaping evidence-based nursing management across Europe. His major contributions center on developing large-scale, cross-national data infrastructures to measure and improve nursing care outcomes. Sermeus led the landmark RN4CAST study, a multi-country project that linked nurse staffing levels, work environments, and patient outcomes, demonstrating that better nurse-to-patient ratios and improved work environments significantly reduce patient mortality and failure-to-rescue rates. This work has influenced health policy and hospital staffing guidelines internationally.
