Healthcare represents one of the most impactful application domains for robotics and artificial intelligence, encompassing a broad range of technologies designed to improve patient outcomes, clinical efficiency, and medical accessibility. In this field, robots perform precise surgical procedures—including remote telesurgery across transcontinental distances—assist elderly patients with daily living, and provide socially assistive companionship to address mental health needs. AI systems analyze medical imaging, detect disease patterns, and support clinical decision-making through deep learning and natural language processing, while wearable sensors and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices enable continuous patient monitoring outside traditional clinical settings. These technologies matter because they address critical challenges: an aging global population straining care resources, geographic barriers limiting specialist access, and the need for earlier, more accurate diagnoses. However, deploying robots and AI in healthcare also raises significant ethical considerations around patient safety, trust, explainability, data privacy, and equitable access—making responsible design and rigorous validation essential before clinical adoption. The integration of these technologies is fundamentally reshaping how care is delivered, educated, and experienced.
